Mountains!

This morning we woke up to a pleasant surprise - sunshine! Apparently the gray hazy weather we'd seen the first two days is pretty standard for this time of year. But today it was clear enough when I woke up that I could see the mountains! What's crazy is, they really are quite close to us, but until today, it was so hazy and smoggy (is that a word?) that we couldn't see them at all. The photos I took don't really show them as clearly as we could see them, even though I took them while hanging halfway out of an open window!

Today was a much less hectic day in the PICU. We were more familiar with the equipment complications, what supplies were and were not available, and just generally how things run. It was still very busy! We had a very enthusiastic group of local staff today, who were really motivated to learn and help with the patients. We had some great teaching opportunities today because the staff was so receptive and eager to join in the work! I extubated this baby almost first thing in the morning, and he went right to sleep afterward.  He is a sweet little guy with Down Syndrome, and he did so well, he got transferred to the step-down ward by the end of the day.

This little boy has been our smallest patient so far - 15 months old and only 6kg. He was a dark blue color before his surgery - as you can see is a little brighter now! And he also wins today's award for best hair, hands down.

Thanks for following the blog, and for all the comments and encouraging words! =) See you tomorrow!

  2. I think the mountains border Iran to the east of you and the snow capped one is in Iran.
